Indo-American School (IAS), established by the Abboy Trust in India and the Indo-American Foundation in California, USA, was founded by M. Abboy Naidu, an agriculturalist from Vallam near Cheyyar. He believed that education is the best tool for the advancement of individuals and society. The trusts have built and donated many buildings to government schools around Cheyyar, aiming to benefit rural students.
The Indo-American College was also established in 1998 to provide higher education opportunities. Located in Cheyyar, approximately 100 km southwest of Chennai, the Indo-American School campus spans about five acres started at 2005. The school buildings cover approximately 100,000 sq. ft., featuring 90 classrooms and a 5,000 sq. ft. auditorium. The institution can accommodate nearly 2,500 students. The classrooms are well-equipped with modern teaching aids, including computer labs, science labs, and a library.
